# Transfer Workspace Ownership

Every workspace has exactly one **Owner** - usually the person who created it. The owner has full control, including deleting the workspace, transferring ownership, and resetting another member's two-factor authentication (2FA). If you're the owner and someone else should take over, you can transfer ownership to them.

**Transferring ownership can't be undone.** Once you transfer it, you become an **Admin** and the other person becomes the Owner.

### Before you start

* You must be the current workspace **Owner**. Only the owner can transfer ownership.
* Choose an existing, active member to become the new owner.
* Be sure - this action is permanent and can't be reversed from the app.

### Steps

1. Click the workspace on the top left(, or your **avatar** in the top right corner) to open the menu, then select **Settings**.
2. In the Settings sidebar, under **Workspace**, select **Members**.
3. Find the member you want to make owner and click the **⋮** (more) button at the end of their row.
4. Select **Update role**.
5. In the **Update role** dialog, open the role dropdown and choose **Owner**.
6. Click **Confirm**.
7. A confirmation dialog appears: "Are you sure you want to transfer ownership?" It explains that the action can't be undone and that you'll lose your ownership and be downgraded to admin. To go ahead, click **Transfer**.

### What to expect

Once confirmed, the other member becomes the workspace **Owner** and you become an **Admin**. As an admin you keep full operational control, but a few owner-only abilities move to the new owner - such as deleting the workspace, transferring ownership again, and resetting another member's 2FA.

### Troubleshooting

* **Owner isn't an option in the role dropdown** → Only the current owner can transfer ownership. If you don't see **Owner** as a choice, you're not the owner of this workspace.
* **You changed your mind** → As long as you haven't clicked **Transfer** in the final confirmation dialog, nothing has changed - click **Cancel** or close the dialog. After you confirm, the transfer is permanent; the new owner would have to transfer it back to you.
